Arsenal’s on loan striker Andrei Arshavin has said that Zenit St Petersburg are definitely worthy of the top place they currently occupy in the Russian league. He also praised manager Luciano Spalletti by saying that he is largely responsible for the good form the team has been showing since his arrival. Zenit St Petersburg managed to sign Russian striker Andrei Arshavin in the final few days of the most recent transfer window. He has joined the Russian club on a loan deal to the end of the season, but is widely expected to make the move permanent in the summer.

Andrei Arshavin has certainly grown disinterested with life in England after having admitted that he would like to move to Russia in order to resurrect his career. Even though the striker was extremely good during the initial few months with Arsenal, the fact that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger failed to use him in his best position ultimately paved way for his decline within the Arsenal first team. He has largely been used as a substitute in the last few months, and the striker admitted that he needed to play regularly in order to represent the Russian national team. The Russian club defeated Dynamo Moscow 5-1 in a recent encounter between the two clubs.

“We have displayed quality football by combining up nicely with each other. We have taken our chances well. We have given the travelling fans something really special. Everything was good except for the field. It was difficult for both the teams. Dynamo started the game badly, made a few mistakes, consequently we punished them,” Andrei Arshavin said after the 5-1 victory. It was a win that moved Zenit St Petersburg nine points clear at the top of the table. Dynamo Moscow remain in the third position in the Russian league.
