PANOV: ANDREI SHOULD MOVE

Alexander Panov has said that his compatriot Andrei Arshavin should join China Super League or Major League Soccer (MLS) if he wants to be called back in the Russian national team.

Arshavin was the captain of the Russian team in the Euro Cup 2012. But, the new manager of the Russian team, Fabio Capello, has left Arshavin out of the team for the World Cup Qualifying matches against Portugal and Azerbaijan. Not only Arshavin, some other senior players of the team including Sergei Semak, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Yuri Zhirkov and Pavel Pogrebnyak have also not been included in the team.

Arshavin is currently playing for Arsenal. He hasn’t been given many playing opportunities in the current season by Arsene Wenger. He has featured for Arsenal in only one match in the ongoing season so far and that too as a substitute.

When asked about Arshavin, Panov said, “Arshavin should think of taking a transfer to some other club. He is not getting playing chances at Arsenal and this is not good for him. He should join a club where he would get playing chances. He should consider the option of joining China Super League or MLS.”

“He can make his way back into the national team only by performing well at the club level. But, if he doesn’t get playing chances, how can he impress the selectors?”

“He is an experienced campaigner and a quality player. He is only 31 at the moment and he still has a few years of football left in him. If he joins some other club, I am sure he will be able to make a comeback in the national team.”

When asked about Russia’s brilliant start of the World Cup qualifying campaign, Panov said, “It’s great to see the young Russian team performing so well. Capello decided to give opportunities to the youngsters and they haven’t let him down. It’s a great start for the team, but, the players shouldn’t take the upcoming games lightly.”
