ZENIT CHASE ARSHAVIN

The Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti has said that he would be interested in bringing Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin to the club in the summer transfer window. The 31-year-old Russian is out of contract at the end of this season. Hence, Arsenal will be looking to recoup most of the £ 15 million they paid to the Russian club four years ago. Even though Zenit St Petersburg will not have to pay such a extra when the transfer fee due to the fact that he is 31 years of age, he is still not expected to cost peanuts.

Andrei Arshavin recently won his league title with the Russian club. He made 10 appearances for the Russian club that after moving back in January. It is thought that Luciano Spalletti will be interested in making the move permanent due to the impact he has had on the team. In the 10 matches, he scored three goals that helped Zenit St Petersburg ahead of their rivals. The new Russian seasons starts on Sunday and Luciano Spalletti has admitted that he would like to make some signings in the transfer window in order to strengthen the team so that they can once again challenge for the title.

“We will buy players. In my opinion Arshavin is a player of real class and, in addition, he is an intelligent man. It all depends on what his motivation is. I have little doubt about Arshavin. I’m sure if he came back, he would play as well as last season. He is one of the names that we have discussed,” said Luciano Spalletti on the official site of the club. They international future of the Arsenal winger has been thrown into doubt after the new Russian manager Fabio Capello said that he will be holding showdown talks after his reactions after the Euro 2012 exit.
