ZENIT FACE VIENNA

Zenit St Petersburg will take on Austria Vienna in a Champions League match at Petrovsky Stadium on Tuesday. This is the second match for the Russian club in the main draw. In their first game against the Spanish club Atletico Madrid, they had suffered a 1-3 defeat which pushed them to the bottom of the Group G points table. They are desperate for a win at the moment and they have a great opportunity to do so against Vienna which is a slightly weaker side.

Zenit is doing fantastically well in its domestic league i.e. Russian Premier League at the moment. They have won 8 out of the 11 games that they have played so far and they are presently at the top of the points table. In their last game against Spartak Moscow, the Sky Blues secured a 4-2 win which would have certainly boosted their confidence. They will go into the match against Vienna feeling good about themselves; that’s for sure.

The Zenit winger Andrey Arshavin came to talk to the reporters in the pre match press conference. When he was asked about his thoughts on the opposition, he said, “This is the first time that I am going to play against Vienna. I don’t watch the games of the Austrian Bundesliga either. So, I don’t have any idea what they are capable of and that’s why I wouldn’t like to make any comment at this point of time. Let’s see what happens on the ground. But, I don’t think that this match is going to decide our fate in this tournament.”

This is the first time ever that these two teams are going to face each other and if we compare them on paper, Zenit looks the clear favourite.
